What we set in your browser, what it is for, and how to switch off the parts you do not want.

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between pages or between visits. Similar technologies — pixels, tags and local storage — do much the same job, and everything below applies to them too.
What we use
Two kinds, and it is worth knowing which is which.
- Strictly necessary. These make the site work: keeping your place as you move between pages, remembering a search you have run, keeping a staff member signed in to the agent tools, and the basic protections that stop our forms being abused. They are not used to track you and the site cannot run without them.
- Advertising and measurement. We advertise on Google, and Google's tag is on every page of this site. It tells us which advert or search an enquiry came from, so we stop paying for the ones that bring nobody, and it allows Google to recognise your browser across sites and show you our adverts elsewhere. This is the category most people want to turn off, and turning it off costs you nothing here.
To be specific about what that second category is: one tag, Google's, belonging to our Google Ads account. It sets its own cookies under Google's privacy policy, which is worth reading if you want the detail. We do not run a Facebook or Instagram pixel on this site, and we do not run a separate analytics product. If that changes, this page changes with it.
Video, maps and social content
Some pages embed a video player, a map or a social post. Opening one of those loads content from the provider, and the provider may set cookies of its own at that point. If you do not open them, they are not loaded.
Turning them off
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge each have a page explaining how, and most will also let you block only third-party cookies, which switches off the advertising ones while leaving the site working. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the site, in particular the forms.
You can also opt out of personalised Google advertising in Google's own ad settings. That opt-out applies wherever you see Google's adverts, not just here.
Changes
When we add or remove a tag we update this page and the date at the top of it. If you want to know exactly what is loading on a given page, your browser's developer tools will show you.
